Matchmove and Layout

Before any CG element hits the screen, there’s a layer of meticulous technical work that sets the stage for seamless visual storytelling. From matchmoving real-world camera motion to animating custom 3D layouts, every frame is grounded in precision.

Matchmove Breakdown
This shot involved a precise matchmove process, aligning the real-world camera movement with the 3D layout camera. By accurately tracking the live-action footage and replicating the motion in a virtual environment, we ensured a solid and stable camera solve — laying the foundation for seamless CG integration in post-production.

Layout Breakdown
The 3D camera animation was entirely crafted in Maya, replicating the dynamic feel of a drone shot. This layout pass established the spatial design and motion rhythm for the scene, enhancing realism and setting the stage for CG asset placement, lighting, and continuity with the live-action footage.

Head Tracking (Machine Learning)
Facial tracking was performed using machine learning to capture nuanced expressions and emotional cues from the actor’s performance. This data-driven approach ensured the compositor had precise control over the facial orientation and movement, enabling seamless integration of CG elements while preserving the integrity of the live-action performance.
